Meta Redirects
Don't do this. Search Engines don't follow meta redirects—some will remove the Site from their indexes (banning it), and visitors who have meta-refresh disabled in their browser will not get forwarded. If your old page appears blank and nothing happens, well, you know they're not coming back. Sure they could always view the source code, but don't count on "Joe Averageguy" knowing how. If nothing else, put up a plain text link with the full URL visible.
The reason Search Engines frown upon this is because such pages are, more often than not, just gateway domains.
